Kallocain CD (2004)
Paatos CD discography When you're a fledgling rock band and you get invited to contribute the live accompaniment to a screening of the classic silent horror film Nosferatu, what exactly should you infer from that? In this case, it probably wasn't meant as a reflection of the band's instrumental sound ...

Timeloss CD (2005)
Paatos albums Paatos' debut album falls somewhere between Landberk's Indian Summer and Morte Macabre's Symphonic Holocaust. Of course, Reine Fiske's flowing basslines and Stefan Dimle's dreamy guitar licks account for most of the basis for these comparisons. Timeloss offers a very strong, if somewhat short debut. Again, Fiske and ...

Silence of Another Kind CD (2006)
Paatos songs Most female-led goth metal acts tend to sound quite a bit like the two poles of the style, Nightwish's "Stevie Nicks goes black metal" vibe or Evanescence's considerably more pop-oriented style. Sweden's Paatos split the difference, avoiding both the commercial sheen of the latter and the Euro-metal ...

Timeloss CD (2005)
Paatos CD discography Paatos' debut album falls somewhere between Landberk's Indian Summer and Morte Macabre's Symphonic Holocaust. Of course, Reine Fiske's flowing basslines and Stefan Dimle's dreamy guitar licks account for most of the basis for these comparisons. Timeloss offers a very strong, if somewhat short debut. Again, Fiske and Dimle were already highly experimental -- and respected -- progressive rock musicians when they entered the studio in early 2002 to record this album. The group also had some mileage on the counter, having recorded a 45-rpm single for Mellotronen the year before ("Téa" was that single's B-side; the version included here was completely re-recorded). Paatos' music relies on very quiet textures, melancholia-laden melodies, aerial flute (or clarinet), and velvety Mellotron. Petronella Nettermalm's voice perfectly matches the music's mood. She does not have a wide range, but she nails down the mysterious/vaporous character of the songs to perfection. Slightly more upbeat than the album's average, "Sensor" makes a good opener, circumscribing the ...

Perception/Tea Vinyl LP (2001)
This 7" was released in early 2001 on the Swedish label Mellotronen in a limited run of 600 copies to introduce Paatos to the progressive rock community. Right in the first seconds of "Perception" the listener finds himself immersed in the signature sound of Landberk: soft guitars, washes of mellotron, lightly melancholic mood, everything recalls the group's masterpiece Indian Summer. It doesn't come as a surprise since Stefan Dimle (bass) and Reine Fiske (guitar) are part of the band. Singer Petronella Nettermalm possesses a fragile but seductive voice. She has a cute accent when singing in English (on "Perception") and taps into deeper emotions when using Swedish (on "Tea"). Both numbers are mid-tempo songs with similar instrumentation. Collectors of 1990s Swedish prog rock should jump on this item. Fans of Landberk, Morte Macabre, and Anekdoten will prefer the full album. ~ François Couture
