Left in Kowloon CD (2004)
Premonitions Of War CD discography Premonitions of War's second full-length album (and first for the respected Victory label) finds the band continuing to refine its relentlessly dark and heavy attack, with impressive results. It's easy to think that the metalcore scene has taken fast-loud-dark-heavy as far as it can go before the sound dissolves into chaotic noise, but Premonitions of War prove that the music can still get a little faster, a little more aggressive, a little angrier, and a little more dense. What's impressive about their sound is the way it communicates all the heaviness of death metal without sounding sludgy or ungainly; on songs like "Black Den" and the frankly unbelievable "Stolen Breath," the tempo and rhythm changes are executed with impressive agility and precision. They do undermine themselves just a little bit with the played-out Cookie Monster voice thing, and it's a little hard not to giggle at the fact that one of the songs on the album is called, quite aptly, "One Constant Volume." But overall this is a very impressive effort from one of heavy music's more skillful bands. ~ Rick Anderson

True Face of Panic CD (2002)
Premonitions Of War music CDs Premonitions of War may have one foot in hardcore punk, but they're really a grindcore band. "Relentless" is the operative word. The True Face of Panic begins as a brawl, an immediately pummeling takedown. The title track occasionally comes up for air in half-time, but repeatedly succumbs to fisticuffs. "Correspondences" goes metal, literally, as cymbals clang over clattering blastbeats. Its relentless grinding does give way to huge, abstract chords, a key weapon in the band's arsenal. Just when things turn black and tunnel vision develops, wide-open chords illuminate the scene, one of utter devastation. In "Hanging Man," such chords crop up in stark contrast to its machine gun riffs. The foot-dragging "Abomination" is practically doom metal -- in between hardcore two-step beats and chaotic, angular accents. Electronic experimentation is rife, but it befits the bombed-out feel. "Hanging Man" ends with cavernous, industrial-sounding beats, while "I'd Settle for Sleep" closes with similarly bleak dub. Roaring vocals scorch throughout. Premonitions of War hadn't yet reached the massive scope of Left in Kowloon, but they flatten a few towns here. ~ Cosmo Lee

Premonitions Of War & Benumb CD (2005)
Premonitions Of War songs The danger of the split EP is that one band can completely overshadow the other, and that happens in spades on the split shared by Premonitions of War and Benumb. Tracks one through four, the cuts from Premonitions of War, sound half-baked at best; a pair of seemingly tongue-in-cheek covers of Mountain's "Mississippi Queen" and Albert King's Chicago blues standard "Born Under ...
