From Romesville to Manhattan CD (2010)
Googie Rene discography 2010 release containing a pair of classic, much sought after and wholesomely groovy beatnik albums together in one offbeat culture-shaking package. Exploitative travelogue grooves from the bongo-wielding keyboard player Googie Rene (best known for some groovy Jazz instrumentals) on the beret-adorned Romesville. Street smart jive from Charlie Parker-approved hustler and expert storyteller Babs Gonzalez on Tales From Manhattan, a sleazy slice of organ-powered soul. With sleeve-notes from MOJO's goateed Dave ...

Rockin' with Robin CD (1959)
Googie Rene CD discography Bobby Day's 1958 hit "Rockin' Robin" is one of the most memorable and recycled oldies of them all. Day, an R&B artist who fared better on the pop charts, never repeated the success of his one big hit. Golden Classics collects all but one of Day's chart hits on the Class label (the minor hit "Gotta New Girl" is omitted, although its B-side is here), showing him to be a fine R&B vocalist with strong pop inclinations. "The Bluebird, the Buzzard and the Oriole" is a blatant attempt to repeat the "Rockin' Robin" formula, but Day's other recordings are more varied. England's Ace label has a lengthier and better-annotated Bobby Day anthology available as an import for only a few dollars more, but Golden Classics is a serviceable collection and includes most of his important cuts. ~ Greg Adams

They Sing like Angels CD (2001)
Googie Rene albums Although this 20-track CD is billed to the Dreamers, it's stretching it some to call it a legitimate Dreamers disc. Only two of the songs are billed solely to the Dreamers. Two others are billed to "the Dreamers featuring Richard Berry," on which Berry actually takes ...
