Sahnas discography Magnificently blending the sounds and rhythms of their native Greek culture with the warm, inviting romance of the classical Spanish guitar, brothers Thano and Demitri Artist have created a magical and intimate Mediterranean style that perfectly complements the powerful jazz fusion of their popular Phoenix-based band, Turning Point. In 2005, Moondo Records released their first two independent albums, From Mykonos to Madrid (a mix of covers and originals that captured their sensual Mediterranean spirit) and the all-original Odyssey. Romanza, their perfectly titled third release, takes this concept to even deeper places in the heart, finding the true emotional core of some of the world's best-loved pop songs. Although the ten-song collection begins with the Latin pop classic "Besame Mucho" and includes the original composition "La Bella Monterosa," the brothers focus primarily on gorgeous new arrangements of beloved pop classics from their own generation: Sting's "Fields of Gold" and "Every Breath You Take," the Beatles' "And I Love Her," Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are," the Eagles' "New Kid in Town," et al. Sahnas CD discography Although their names suggest their Greek heritage, acoustic guitarists Thano Artist and Demitri Artist are from Phoenix, AZ. Members of the multicultural worldbeat band Turning Point, their duo project Artist is an exploration of their classical guitar roots. Instrumental duets performed on a pair of acoustic guitars, these ten songs range from percussive, jazzy tunes like "El Greko" to more traditional Latin-tinged numbers like "Bailando con la Luna." There's also a pair of pop song covers, Peter Green's "Black Magic Woman" (performed in a style closer to Santana's hit cover than Fleetwood Mac's bluesy original) and a train-wreck mash-up of the Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black" and the Animals' version of the folk standard "House of the Rising Sun." Neither of these songs is particularly effective in this style, nor do they meld well together. Those misguided efforts aside, Odyssey is pleasant instrumental semi-exotica with Spanish, Brazilian, and Mediterranean roots that's enjoyable in small doses, but not particularly memorable. ~ Stewart Mason Live Recording

Sahnas CD discography Smooth jazz heads must nod a little faster in summer if this collection of mellow funk is any indication. Jennifer York's lackluster delivery sounds out of place given the funky accompaniment on the disco medley opener, "Got to Be Real/Best of My Love." After that it's smooth sailing, with Steve Oliver's Latin-flavored "High Noon" and Everette Harp's spirited version of Michael Jackson's "Rock With You" being highlights. It's never too hot and always breezy in the world of A Smooth Jazz Summer. It gains points for being cohesive but looses a few for lack of information on the players ...
