Mike Williford using the power of the internet placed an add in a local musician's forum through which he met bass player Larry Hagstrom, who had a guitar playing friend named Matt Garman, then add one drummer named Matt Orth and wahlah, you have Shades of Grey. In 2004 Shades of Grey was named the best Acoustic Folk band by the Modesto Area Music Association, and had several chances to appear live on the air on B93 After Hours with Dave Massey. Shades of Grey is also one of the few local artist to appear regularly on B93 Unwound with Donna Miller.
