Spiderland CD (1991)
Slint music CDs Beloved of critics, ignored by the record-buying public, Slint stretched six tracks over 40 minutes and left an indelible impression on almost everyone. The songs on SPIDERLAND evolve of their own accord, without reference to narrative structure. What at first glance appears meandering and prosaic ("For Dinner ...") becomes, on second and subsequent listenings, hypnotic, beatific and pan-dimensional. If Brian McMahon has a peer as alternative rock's most innovative guitarist it would have to be Steve Albini, who just happens to be the producer on SPIDERLAND. The back of the CD features the legend: "This recording is meant to be listened to on vinyl", as if to ram home its left-field credentials. Whatever format you choose, SPIDERLAND will not disappoint.
Recorded from August to October 1990.
Personnel: Brian McMahan (vocals, electric guitar); David Pajo (guitar); Britt Walford (drums).
Recording information: 08/1990-10/1990.
Photographers: Noel Saltzman; Will Oldham.

Slint (1994)
Slint discography The release of this two-song EP (originally available only on vinyl, but hence released on CD) marks the end of Slint's brief yet shockingly provocative career. The album contains an alternate version of "Rhoda" from Tweez, as well as one previously unreleased track, "Glenn." The album is a 20-minute barrage of haunting melodies and caustic noise. It is entirely instrumental, and this evidences Slint's skill and ambition. Without lyrics, the music takes a precedence that it perhaps lacks on other albums. Although greatly in the character of their earlier work, this album breaks through as Slint's most important release. Sadly, though, the album acknowledges the breakup of the band. Many have followed in the wake of Slint, but it seems unlikely that anyone will eclipse them. The album is a requisite listen for anyone interested in the post-rock era. ~ Marc Gilman
Slint: David Pajo, Ethan Buckler, Britt Walford, Brian McMahan.

Tweez CD (1989)
Slint songs Tweez is a fine, if bizarre recording, often switching from bass-led rhythm to rhythm in the same song. The guitars are harsh, but not especially fast. Instead of singing, bits of dialogue, sound effects, and spoken lyrics are used. ~ John Bush
Recording information: StudioMedia, Evanston, IL (1987).
Slint: Brian McMahan (guitar, vocals); David Pajo (guitar); Ethan Buckler (bass); Britt Walford (drums).

 Slint Biography
Slint CD discography Born out of the ashes of Louisville punk band Squirrel Bait in the late 1980s, Artist effectively followed in the footsteps of fellow math-rockers like Honor Role, creating convoluted, dense, alternative rock--before there was such a thing. After a mere two albums--one of which was really a collection of demos--around 1994, Artist dissolved into the For Carnation, having helped pave the way for the development of the emocore movement. Artist reformed in the early 2000s for a string of historic reunion tours, one of which saw them perform their landmark album SPIDERLAND in its entirety.
