Wyrd Sisters albums Formed by Kim Baryluk in 1989 as a casual gathering of friends sharing songs and stories in the best folk tradition, the Wyrd Sisters -- whose straightforward blues/rock grooves and catchy melodies are anything but weird -- they're rather compelling -- are longtime Winnipeg favorites and highly decorated Canadian folkies. But folk may be a misnomer because Baryluk's haunting vocals are backed by elements of jazz, blues and rock, in addition to solid pop/rock production that is anything but gentle and acoustic. Their history leading up to this multi-faceted, socially conscious fifth recording is impressive. They have enjoyed performances across the continent, from folk festivals to concert halls to full symphonic backing; they've been on national and international TV and radio shows; boast three Juno nominations; three videos (all of which received full play on CMT); and won Best Group award in the folk category of the Prairie Music Awards.
