Walkabout CD (2007)
Optimo CD discography Presumably mixed in a featureless Siberian bunker by Optimo's J.G. Wilkes -- his partner, J.D. Twitch, might've been incapacitated at the time, sprawled across the bunker floor, his brainpan scoped by abrasive rhythmic sounds shooting off the walls -- Walkabout contrasts considerably with the Scottish duo's previous commercial mixes, 2004's bewildering How to Kill the DJ, Pt. 2 and 2005's tripped-out Psyche Out. In spite of its varied sources, including burbling acid house, bone-dry minimal techno, early electro-pop, frayed and highly frictional ...

 Optimo Biography
Artist referred both to the Glaswegian DJ duo of J.D. Twitch and J.G. Wilkes and, as Artist Espacio, the club night they ran in their native city. Twitch and Wilkes were part of the generation of the cross-pollination that flowered in the late '80s at Manchester's Hacienda, when it became socially acceptable to like both indie pop and electronic dance. As the duo's buzz grew, Twitch and Wilkes began to release DJ mixes, starting with the manic double-disc How to Kill the DJ, Pt. 2 in 2004. The more thematic Psyche Out followed in 2005, followed by the wide-ranging Walkabout two years later. ~ Stewart Mason
