Junior Delahaye CD discography Junior Delahaye was one of a number of young and unheralded reggae singers who were given an opportunity to prove themselves in the Bronx recording studio of producer Lloyd "Bullwackie" Barnes. He acquitted himself nicely on this 1982 release, which languished in Barnes' vaults for 20 years before being reissued on CD in late 2002. Focusing primarily on romantic material (with one religious song thrown in for good measure) and helped by Barnes' crack studio band and his Lee Perry-influenced production style, Delahaye alternates between a romantic falsetto and a rich tenor voice, delivering one of the few worthwhile reggae versions of "Sitting in the Park" and a nice version of the soul classic "I Love You for All Seasons," as well as longtime reggae favorite "Traveling Man" and three originals. His style is not revelatory, but the quality of his voice and his studio presence make it clear that he deserved more attention than he got. ~ Rick Anderson Recording information: 1982. Personnel includes: Junior Delahaye, Jerry Harris, Jah T, Roland Alphonso. Personnel: Junior Delahaye (background vocals); Jerry Harris (guitar); Roland ...

Junior Delahaye CD discography Clive Field Marshall is a dancehall DJ from the early days of the genre (1981) who has left hardly a footprint in the annals of reggae history, but whose Wackies debut was such an instant hit with record buyers that labelhead Lloyd Barnes was unable to keep the album in stock -- in fact, his retail clients outside of the New York area never even saw it before it sold out. Not surprisingly, it proves to be the strongest release so far in the distinguished Wackies reissue campaign. Marshall owes some of his style to the Lone Ranger, who was helping to define the nascent dancehall genre from his homebase in Jamaica at the time, but Marshall's delivery is original and creative enough to stand on its own. The rhythms (provided by the usual band of Wackies studio regulars) are rock-solid as well, and include both standard-issue Studio One adaptations and original material, such as the rhythm that backs up Marshall's quirky "Sheep Skin Gone Clear." Other highlights include his bemused account of a legal close call, entitled "State Trooper Style" (he was pulled over and ticketed for speeding, but the officer neglected to check for the enormous herb stash in the back of his car), and the title ...

Junior Delahaye albums By modern standards, a six-song set barely qualifies as a single, never mind as a full-length album, but with each stellar song featured in its extended form, Dance Hall Style doesn't merely pass muster as an album, but as a masterpiece. As with all the Wackies sets from this era, it's ...
