Suzanne Langille, who has for years been the vocal accompanist of guitarist Loren MazzaCane Connors, steps out in front for this unbelievably sensual series of forlorn ballads and blues. Connors and two-thirds of Atlanta's San Augustin Trio help her out. While it's true that there are a couple of solely instrumental tunes, whereby Connors and the other two guitarists get to create a smoky, oblique forest of sonic tension with Langille playing guitar as well, these are merely interludes for Langille's gorgeous songwriting. New York downtown percussion fixture Jonathan Kane was a founder member of the Swans, and has collaborated with avant-garde musicians Rhys Chatham and La Monte Young. He combines thickly layered, repetitive guitars and hypnotic drumming in a simulacrum of blues-flavored rock on these two tracks, which move through successive moods of pastoral country and grimy raunch.
