Linde Nijland Sings Sandy Denny CD (2007)
The legendary female folksinger Sandy Denny moved the hearts of many in the sixties and seventies. Since 1967 she was during periods a member of the famous British folkrock group Fairport Convention. She also sang in bands such as Fotheringay and The Strawbs and made solo albums. In 1978 at the age of 31 she died unexpectedly of a brain hemorrhage. Today her music is still very much alive. Linde Nijland is one of the two singers of the Dutch female folk duo 'Ygdrassil'. In 2002 Linde Nijland has started a musical project around Sandy Denny. She's come up with a performance in which her love for Sandy Denny's music can be felt. The Denny repertoire fits Linde very well, not only because of the two kindred voices, but also due to the themes and emotional contents of the songs. Linde draws from the entire Denny-oeuvre, singing Sandy Denny 's own material, several traditionals and an occasional song, written by others.
In the project "Linde Nijland sings Sandy Denny" Linde is being accompanied by three folkmusicians: Eddy de Jonge (bass, guitar), Bert Ridderbos (guitar, cittern, accordion) and Jannet Fink (violin).
In 2003 and 2004 the project has been booked by several appealing festivals and venues in The Netherlands and Germany such as the International Folkwoods Festival Eindhoven, Folk Festival Zwolle and the Arsenaal theater Vlissingen and the Folkfri¼hling Festival in Venne. Other gigs are ...
