Asylum Choir II CD (1971)
Asylum Choir discography Digitally remastered by Tom Baker (Future Disc Systems, Hollywood, California).
Of all Russell's early work as an artist, this record is perhaps the least essential; in particular, songs like "Tryin' to Stay Live" and "When You Wish Upon a Fag" feel dated. Especially noteworthy is Russell's own version of "Hello, Little Friend"; Joe Cocker would later record the definitive version of the song. (The 1995 CD reissue features five bonus tracks). ~ Jim Worbois

Digitally remastered by Jason Arnold (September 1996, Capitol Recording Studios, Hollywood, California).
It's a little problematic to put together a compilation of such an album-oriented artist. But unless you're very deeply into the Leon Russell catalog, this two-CD, 40-track best-of will serve as a retrospective of all that you need, largely covering his work from the first half of the '70s (a couple of songs from his 1992 ...
