The Rumour songs It is not as if Graham Parker never found another sympathetic backing band after he parted ways with the Rumour in 1980. Notably, he joined forces with the power pop band the Figgs in the mid-'90s, having them as his supporting group for over a decade, a far longer stretch of time than he played with the Rumour, but there was no shaking the ghost of his original band, the one who supported him on the classics Howlin' Wind and Squeezing Out Sparks. Whatever lingering grievances between bandmates were forgotten and forgiven and Parker reunited with the Rumour for 2012's Three Chords ...

The Rumour music CDs In 1979, after watching three fine albums go unnoticed thanks to shoddy promotional efforts by his American record label, Graham Parker was finally getting the attention he deserved when his album Squeezing Out Sparks was released to universal critical praise and impressive sales. Parker seemed determined to make up for lost time in the States, and he and his band the Rumour hit the road, playing a run of shows that topped the album for sheer fire and vitriol. Parker and the Rumour played a two-night stand at the Old Waldorf in San Francisco, and local radio station KSAN-FM recorded the second ...

The Rumour CD discography HEAT TREATMENT is a 1976 album by the British pub-rock performer Graham Parker. Graham Parker And The Rumour's second album, recorded hot on the heels of their debut, HOWLIN' WIND, is the equal of its more-celebrated predecessor, and may possibly be even better. For one thing, Robert John "Mutt" Lange's typically booming production serves Parker's anthemic songs and the Rumour's balls-out playing better than Nick Lowe's muddier sound. For another, the songs are simply incredible, up there with the classic SQUEEZING OUT SPARKS. The title track, "Back Door Love," and "Hotel Chambermaid" are R&B raveups that show how much tighter the Rumour had gotten ...

The Rumour albums The great lost man of 1970s British rock, Graham Parker was the link between boozy, good-time pub rock and sharp-as-a-tack new wave; directly responsible for the emergence of Joe Jackson, Nick Lowe, Elvis Costello et al. Backed with irreplaceable grace by the Rumour, itself full of pub-rock refugees, Parker chewed up '60s R&B influences (most apparent here on "Soul Shoes" and "Heat Treatment") and spat out hard-hitting rockers brimming with vitriol and perspicacious wordplay ("Love Gets You Twisted" is as tough as it gets). YOU CAN'T BE TOO STRONG quits while it's ahead, cutting off before Parker and his band parted ways ...

The Rumour discography There may be no real purpose behind Polygram Special Markets' Hold Back the Night, but it nevertheless is a surprisingly effective sampler of Graham Parker's classic Mercury years. Sure, there are a number of great songs missing, but enough of the masterworks -- "White Honey," "Howlin' Wind," "Don't Ask Me Questions," "Heat Treatment," "Hold Back the Night" -- are here, along with some good album cuts. The end result isn't definitive by any means -- and the curious should still stick with original albums -- but it's nevertheless a strong, entertaining sampler that is worth its budget price. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Personnel: ...
