Mitch Seidman music CDs LINER NOTES (select "Read more..."); Mitch Seidman-guitarJamie MacDonald-acoustic bassClaire Arenius-drums As a follow-up to our live CD Triangulation we reunited in a first-rate recording studio, and focused mainly on compositions by members of the trio. The collaboration spanned a variety of moods, yet remained committed to the idea of approaching jazz as an expressive form of art, and often blurring the line between melody, improvised solo, and accompaniment. This relies on a rare collective empathy apart from technical facility on a musical instrument. Such empathy is infused with experience, which drummer Claire Arenius has accrued performing with Melba Liston, Archie Shepp, Marion Brown, Ray Copeland, Tal Farlow, Mose Allison, Richard Davis, Barney Kessel, Slide Hampton, and Attila Zoller. Aside from his duties as the Artistic Director of the Open Music Collective in Brattleboro, Vermont, bassist Jamie MacDonald has appeared with Sheila Jordan, Bobby Bradford, The Rod Levitt Orchestra, Peter Eldridge, and Harvey Diamond. Claire contributed the compositions "Movin' On" and "For One Who Waits," which both also demonstrate her wonderful drumming, and Jamie contributed "Out To Nowhere," featuring his bass playing the tricky melody. My compositions include "Hannah's Dolphin," inspired by my young daughter and her current favorite mammal, "Three," and "Reflecting," dedicated to legendary jazz guitarist Jimmy Raney. We also included the Attila Zoller bossa nova "A Thousand Dreams," and the Van Heusen/DeLange ballad "Darn That Dream." We hope that you enjoy the listening experience. We did. Mitch Seidman June 2012 (Guitarist Mitch Seidman has performed throughout the U.S. and overseas, and has recorded on Jardis, Cadence, Kyran, Brownstone, and other labels. He is also a Professor at Berklee College of Music)

Mitch Seidman discography Mitch Seidman has remained somewhat obscure despite over 20 years of professional experience, mostly in Boston. An excellent guitarist most influenced by Jim Hall and Jimmy Raney, on this CD he is heard in a trio with bassist Harvie Swartz and drummer Alan Dawson and, with the addition of Charlie Kohlhase on baritone and alto and Leonard Hochman on tenor and bass clarinet, in quartet/quintets. This well-paced set has plenty of memorable selections, including strong versions of Duke Ellington's "Going Up," "It Could Happen to You," and the intriguing calypso "Dyani." The interplay between Seidman, Swartz, and Dawson is consistently impressive, making this forward-thinking bop set well worth checking out. ~ Scott Yanow Liner Note Author: Jack "Stereo Jack" Woker. Mitch Seidman songs For his second Brownstone release, the quiet but inwardly intense guitarist Mitch Seidman explores mostly originals and obscurities with an unusual chamber quartet also featuring bassist Harvie Swartz, bass clarinetist Leonard Hochman and the viola of Ella Lou Weber. The interplay between Seidman and Swartz in particular is consistently impressive while the colors provided by Hochman ...
