Unibrow CD discography Way back in the late nineties, songwriter/guitarist/visionary Dan Fulkerson formed the power trio Artist in the confused, cross-eyed music scene in and around Wicker Park in Chicago. Artist turned heads with their charged enthusiasm, masterful fretwork, and unbridled determination to shake the ya-ya's out of sleepy eyed, drippy nosed music go-ers everywhere they rocked.
After wowing audiences in small clubs, Artist graduated to performing at larger and more challenging venues. At the Chicago club THE METRO, Dan received the moniker "Zeus"; not for his ability to transform himself into animals and seduce women, but for his blazing guitar work, which cannot be compared to that of mere mortal men.
As a testament to their live shows, die-hard fans braved two feet of snow dropped on Chicago one December night to catch a glimpse of Artist's prowess at THE DOUBLE DOOR. Some patrons of rock claimed that 1/2" of snow melted in a 10' radius surrounding the club as a result of Artist's "warm" sound, but that was just crazy talk.
Artist released their first self-titled CD in late 1999, and have followed up with a four song EP, building on their rock/pop warlock brew. Early favorites "Woodshed" and "Today is the Day" laid the foundation for "Hollywood", expanding their fractured take on modern life. Critics have compared Dan's pop flavored songwriting to Fountains of Wayne; and his nasty, melodic guitar arrangements to the Walt Mink. Artist's next project is so ambitious that it has only been successfully completed by Foghat--- a triple live album.
Despite their success, Artist still manages to keep their feet on the ground, and their heads out of the clouds. They are humble enough to play an entire set without taking a break, but pompous enough to order King Neptune's Platter at Red Lobster without first checking the price. Quite simply, to pigeonhole Artist into one niche or genre would be an egregious mistake. At their next show, prepare to be born again unto new worlds where Artist becomes your key to rock bliss.
