Sean Deason albums Deason is considered one of the leading lights in the "second wave" of Detroit techno artisans, alongside K. Hand, Wild Planet, Octave One, and others. ALLEGORY & METAPHOR, a superb follow up to his debut long-player RAZORBACK, ups both the soul-funk quotient of his beats and the broad electronic expanses of his ambient backwashes. The opening "Creation" sets shimmering walls of heat-haze synth against hi-hats that sound like steam hissing into the humid summer air. It's a mournfully beautiful track that establishes Deason's modus operandi. "Phunk" gets down to business, a momentary Model 500 space excursion reining in clattering snares and a beehive of percussive force. "Zig" sees Deason collaborating with fellow rising star Claude Young, jamming in a forest of bubbling sequencers, while sexy strings arc out of rising digital clouds.
