His initial involvement started in 1969, working with a MOOG modular synth. Over the years, his approach to composing with synthesizers has been fairly consistent ; utilize the unique tonal and special effects possibillities of synths to enhance music written with well defined melodic and harmonic structures. The music of Phineas James incorporates elements of Classical, Jazz , Rock and other stylistic influeneces. Many have described it as cinematic, and it may stradle the line of multiple musical genres, such as Electronica, Ambient and New Age.
