FROM IS TO WAS This is the vibrant debut album from Gordon Irvine and Chris Kant asJugalbandi, an Indian word meaning two performers in concert who fusedifferent instruments or systems of music: they use 12 and 6 stringguitars, Greek baglama (a long necked bowl-lute), mandolin, octavemandolin and cittern, and so one or two listens will illustrate thatit does what it says on the packet. Some of the tracks have percussive elements which provide extra depthand power to the dynamic of the strings.  For those who want a peg onwhich to hang this new work, there are echoes of Pentangle, Hot Clubde France and primitive Penguin Cafe Orchestra but with JazzManouche, blues, latin rhythms and mariachi - all thrown into thejuicer.
