Crystal Tips and Mighty Mice Crystal Tips and Mighty Mice CD (2008)
CD $14.85 Buy It  Details
Photos music CDs British band the Photos stayed together only long enough to release one--self-titled--album in 1980. The follow-up, the curiously titled CRYSTAL TIPS AND MIGHTY MICE, lingered in the vaults until its eventual exhumation in 2008. Like its predecessor, it shows a punchy band mixing punk energy with power-pop hooks and new-wave production touches, with dynamic lead singer Wendy Wu simultaneously channeling Debbie Harry and Patti Smith, while still retaining her own style. 2008 release, the long-lost sophomore album from the British quartet, which has remained shelved and unreleased since it was recorded in 1981. Crystal Tips & Mighty Mice is a classic record, from one of the best melodic Pop bands to emerge from Punk and has songs which sound as fresh and frisky now as they did back then. A successful live band, commanding big audiences and touring with big bands, even having U2 support them, The Photos ran out of steam and imploded, leaving stunning songs behind them like a trail of expensive litter. The CD has been re-mastered from the original master tapes, and will be warmly welcomed as one of the great 'lost' albums of the early '80s finally seeing the light of day. Cherry Red. Liner Note Author: Alex Ogg. The Photos: Wendy Wu (vocals). Personnel: Wendy Wu (vocals); Steve Eagles (guitar).

Prior to the debut album, a four-track EP was released featuring the tracks "Irene," which was later to become the band's only hit single, albeit peaking at a miserable number 56, and "Barbarellas," about the closing of a local nightclub. The original vinyl and cassette album was just 12 tracks, but when finally transferred to CD in the late '90s, they added an additional 11 tracks from the Blackmail Tapes sessions that were never originally released. The Photos included the single "Irene" and "Do You Have Fun," which they were due to perform on Top of the Pops before an industrial dispute took the show off the air. Most of the tracks were bouncy new ...
