Rueben Brock albums Writer/producer Rueben Brock started out in the music world as a jazz trumpeter.
 Studying the music of jazz legends like Count Basie, Miles Davis, and Oscar Peterson, he learned the fundamentals of blues and swing.
 He remembers, "I wanted to play like Clark Terry.
 I always loved that raw, bluesy sound."    Not long into his career, though, he found that creating music gave him a lot more satisfaction than playing it.
 Diving deeper into the music of Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, and others, Brock found himself putting down his trumpet in order to hone his skill as a writer/producer.
    A few twists of fate landed Brock in relatively unfamiliar territory, getting his first real production experience through a hip-hop project he took on in 1998.
