Tomorrow Never Knows Tomorrow Never Knows CD (2006)
CD $8.99 Buy It  Details
CatDesigners albums "Tomorrow Never Knows" is a 40th anniversary tribute to The Beatles' "Revolver" album ... not an album of Beatles covers but a cover of an entire Beatles album. And not just any old album ... one that is consistently voted among the Top 5 albums of all time ... ever! If you love The Beatles you'll appreciate some of the touches in these versions. For example, every Beatles fan knows The Jam stole the bass-line from "Taxman" for their song "Start." Well, in revenge, CatDesigners stole the bass-line from a Jam song ("A Town Called Malice") and, with some adjustments, used it for this version of "Taxman." A melody line from a song on The White Album ("I Will") appears as a keyboard part on the chorus of "For No One". Following the sea-faring theme, "Yellow Submarine" has re-emerged as an old English sea-shanty. "Tomorrow Never Knows" is industrial glam (think somewhere between Iggy Pop's "The Idiot" and Goldfrapp's "Supernature") Liberal quantities of influences that both pre-date and post-date The Beatles have been lovingly applied to this re-interpretation, from folk and blues to glam and electronica. When Nick Troop (aka CatDesigners) hit on the ...
Chemical Jazz Chemical Jazz CD (2003)
CD $8.99 Buy It  Details
CatDesigners music CDs "One of the underground's best-kept secrets" (Tim Peacock, Whisperin' & Hollerin') Eclectic, emotive and evocative indie ... CatDesigners experiment with full versus minimalist arrangements and give impressions of thoughts and feelings connected with events that are never quite described. There are beautiful songs and dirty little homages to loved and lost bands. Although modesty and natural British reserve prevents us from blowing our own horns, here are a few comments from the critics: "Chemical Jazz" is one hell of a calling card. If you're a creative person in the midst of a bit of a slump, it may even make you feel a little inadequate. You've been warned. (George Zahora, Splendid E-zine) [Chemical Jazz] showcases a fertile mind in overdrive and at home with exciting eclecticism ... with a knack for subverting genres ... a defiantly square peg where the round hole pigeonholers are concerned. Nick Troop is very surely a man to watch. (Tim Peacock, Whisperin' & Hollerin') CatDesigners are a prolific and intriguing indie band. Their singer/guitarist and songwriter Nick Troop seems to have some fascinating ideas on how to make music. "Chemical Jazz" is a multi-layered, impressive debut. (Anna Maria Stjarnell, Luna Kafe)

CatDesigners discography "One of the underground's best-kept secrets" (Tim Peacock, Whisperin' & Hollerin') CatDesigners soak up a lot of musical influences (including, but not limited to, Bowie, Beck, Brel, Blur and Buckley), add a splash of impressionsim, a twist of guitar artillery*, a dash of drama* and just a hint of small hours psychosis* before passing it all through a psychological filter.
