Dances of Macedonia and the Balkans CD (2002)
Adam Good discography Recorded and produced entirely by Adam Good, a New York based musician (bass player for HARMONIA, guitarist in NIKITOV and SIDESHOW) fascinated by Eastern European music and in particular "Izvorno" (folk music) of Macedonia. Eastern melodies accompanied by meditative drones with quirky "odd meter" rhythms. Every track features Adam and special guests on folk instruments playing familiar traditional tunes (Pajdushko, Mashkato, Baba Dzhurdzha, Rajkos, Topansko) and original melodies in rhythms of the region (Beranche, Chochek, Ruchenitsa).

"Good is good at what he does, playing quick dance tunes on tambura with an intricate style -- the music goes well with wine. Dances is a sure bet for Balkan dancers out for a light, rapid chochek, or for Markos Vamvakaris or Andy Irvine enthusiasts, or anyone else, for that matter, who wants to hear good music ...

Sideshow: Songs Of Charles Ives CD
Adam Good albums New York's Sideshow exquisitely brings together bass, clarinet, guitar, vibraphone, and percussion in exploring the music of early 20th century innovator Charles Ives. Ives himself, in guiding the transition from classical music to jazz as a popular idiom, questioned and stretched the very definition of what is a song. Sideshow stretches out in the protean nature of a song by performing the pieces as instrumentals, but printing the lyrics in their CD booklet. (At gigs they provide lyric sheets.) When Ives wrote for "theater orchestra" (the ensemble consisting of whomever shows), he made certain any instrumental part that gets played displays the entire melody and the loss of now individual part is critical. This holographic nature of Ives' compositions makes them especially well suited to delivery from a jazz ensemble. Sideshow takes full advantage of that on this superlative recording. ~ Tom Schulte
