Blur Joan CD (2005)
Headless Household CD discography The band takes yet some new twists on its seventh and latest album, in which the digital paintboxing of Tom Lackner and Dick Dunlap blend in with some of the most jazz-minded tracks yet, with bold saxophonic contributions from alto player Dave Binney and tenor man Tom Buckner. Hyphenates are in order here, with encounters of the electro-acoustic, forward-reverse, inside-outside kind. Julie Christensen cameos on a couple ...

Headless Household CD (1987)
Headless Household albums Headless Household, the new music party combo, recorded its debut at Planet Studios in 1987, with the engineer-producer known as Bill 7 twisting knobs (yes, knobs) at Planet Studio. It was four years after the group formed, and release #1 for the Household Ink Records label. True to eclectic form, the tracks shift from free improv ("Year of the Donkey") to scruffy sort-of-fusion ("One Form of Therapy," ...

Mockhausen CD (2009)
Headless Household music CDs Formed in 1983, the confusingly eclectic New Music group Headless Household has just released its fifth album: mockhausen is a collection of outtakes, improvisation, and other artful noises, and is the least "commercial" one yet. From a motley range of sources, both live and studio-bound, structurally free and!well, slightly less free, a strange continuity emerges. One could even call it psycho-meditative.
The discography: Headless Household (1987), Inside/Outside ...

Items CD (2009)
Headless Household songs In 1983, the new music combo Headless Household was formed in Santa Barbara, as a vehicle through by which four curious musicians might explore common grounds and uncommon sounds. Late in 1996, along comes their third feature-length album, entitled ITEMS, a further statement-of-purpose in an eclectic style which might now be dubbed itemism. That is: the band touches down in various genres without ever settling down roots. ...

Inside/Outside USA CD (2009)
Headless Household CD discography Santa Barbara-based new music group Headless Household released its second full-length recording, Inside/Outside USA in 1993. The 14-song package is expectedly all over the map in terms of style, attitude, and mental wardrobe. Here, jazz, pop, folk, funk, free improvisation, cabaret, surf, C&W, polka, and other musical directions freely co-mingle. Keyboardist Dick Dunlap, guitarist Joe Woodard, bassist Chris Symer, and drummer-percussionist Tom Lackner formed the band in ...

Free Associations CD (2009)
Headless Household albums The center has held, more or less, over the past 15 years. Things have changed/stayed the same. Politicians have sinned, theologians have sighed, and the price of potatoes has oscillated. And the combo known as Headless Household still doesn't know what to make of itself. Such is the socio-musical backdrop against which the band's fourth feature-length album, Free Associations, has come into being. As the album title implies, the group relies on the kindness of outside associates to freely contribute, instrumentally and vocally. A running theme is the associative imperative: musicians often engage in dogpile dialogues, i.e. talking at the same time, in the interest of a richer musical experience. As ...
