Shadows & Dreams CD (2011)
Orbis music CDs This is a collection of original vocal compositions. The performers are all professional jazz musicians, but the compositions stretch farther than one genre can encompass. Influences such as Charlie Parker, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Dave Brubeck, Django Reinhardt, Dan Hicks, and even the Beatles and the Grateful Dead can be heard on various tracks, yet Artist has a consistent and appealing sound all it's own.
The co-leaders of Artist, world class instrumentalists Tom Shader (acoustic bass) and Bill DeKuiper (hollow body guitar), occasionally sing lead, but most often present close vocal harmonies that bend and support the amazing work of phenomenal lead vocalist Jacquie Godden. Woodwind virtuoso Jeff Sanford's solos are innovative and exciting, while groove master Kevin Dillon provides his own creative drum breaks to Artist' sound which can be both surprising and accessable.
This may well become your favorite new album.

March 2006 EP CD (2006)
Orbis discography Artist Artist Artist Artist Artist Artist
The March 2006 EP from Artist is a smaller teaser of what's to come... The next full length album will blow your doors off! These are going to be collector's editions of these songs... The final versions will have more, and we wanted to include all our fans in what we're up to and our creative process. Some of these recording are over a year old already and have grown a lot since originally recorded through experimentation and live performance. Pay particular attention to the intensity of the Spirit & Funeral - both slower songs that have many times brought entire venues to their knees; the pop sensibilities and harmonies in Revelation with its forefront Police-esque bass line and full tilt choruses; and Get Up's ever-shifting verses going from Hard rock to disco to insane slap-o-rama 16th funk rock. These are the trademarks of Artist. Never hearing the same old same old, even in the same song. The compositions continually evolve with each passing verse, inverting the harmonic structures and keeping your ear intrigued and guessing as to what may happen next! The performances are tight, flawless, but impetuous and raw with the unbridled energy these players love to bring to the table.
Listen to the sound bites here, but two minutes of an Artist song will never do it full justice. And no recording will ever do Artist full justice compared to a live stage. Andy Binkowski and Sean Harris are a rhythm section's wet dream, locking together and constantly pushing the extent of what a pop group can do. Carl Yagley's guitar work is reminiscent of Jimmy Page and Chris Cornell, with their intense and focused rock hooks. Peter Asaro's vocals and direct, rich, and soaring at times, harmonizing with the rest of the band and creating huge pallets of color and beauty, or perhaps darkness, with clear vision and the aspiration to make his voice one with the ensemble. Each of these musicians carry their weight, and their own voice in Artist, like the legendary super groups such as the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, the Who. Each character unique and recognizable, but part of a collective whole.
This EP is just a preview of what's to come. The next album will make waves like many of their Detroit contemporaries have. In the immortal words of Les Claypool, "Fish on..."
