With Haste With Haste CD (2006)
CD $7.75 Buy CD  Details
Thoughts of Crossing is a band out of Gilbert, Iowa that has been making rock music since the winter of 2002. There are 5 members in Thoughts of Crossing, 3 of whom are brothers (Pat Hummer, Tom Hummer, and John Hummer), and 2 of whom are friends of the brothers (Mike Bal and Brandon Kester). The beginning of Thoughts of Crossing started in early 2001, when Mike, John, and Tom began making purely instrumental rock music with Mike on drums, John on guitar, and Tom on bass. They kept writing music this way for a couple of years, until John and Tom's older brother Pat decided to join them, playing guitar. They tried a few different singers through all of this, but none of them really fit the musical style they were aiming for. It was in spring of 2004 that they finally found the person that would fill the missing link; Brandon Kester. With the addition of Pat and Brandon came a widely varied background of musical inspirations, ranging from jazz, to heavy metal, to alternative rock, and even to rap. Because of these many different influences that come from each member of the band, Thoughts of Crossing incorporates a little bit of everything to achieve the sound they have today. In January of 2005 Thoughts of Crossing recorded their first full album, Follow Me on This One, which was a 15 track work that covered all of their musical accomplishments, ranging from 3 years to 3 months before the making of the album. And now, not even a year later, Thoughts of Crossing has finished recording their second album entitled With Haste. As soon as the first album had been released, Thoughts of Crossing began experimenting with new sounds that combine all their styles into one. After finding a sound they were comfortable with, they began writing the compositions that would make their second album. With each song testing each individual's talent yet also testing the unity of them as a group, With Haste shows Thoughts of Crossing's ability to keep their own unique sound from weathering and separates them from the average band. On top of their prolific reputation in the studio, Thoughts of Crossing keeps this trait strong throughout every other aspect of themselves as a band. They take care of all their own sales, advertising, booking, management, and promotion. Many local musicians and members of the local music scene have received help from Thoughts of Crossing, including booking shows, recording demos in their home studio, and internet promotion. The most recent project completed by Thoughts of Crossing was a compilation album made to raise money for the American Red Cross National Disaster Relief Fund. The composition, After the Storm, included 19 tracks from 19 different bands across Iowa. They also planned an album release show for After the Storm which featured 9 bands from the album and brought in over 300 people throughout the day. The donation won't be made until the entirety of the albums are sold, but the release show itself raised over $600 for the cause. With regular appearances on one of the main radio stations in the area and a busy schedule of performances, Thoughts of Crossing is quickly becoming one of the strongest local music icons in Iowa.
