Aidan John Moffat CD discography Following the dissolution of Arab Strap, his duo with Malcolm Middleton, Scottish singer-songwriter Aidan Moffat released a few solo albums under the project name Lucky Pierre (sometimes L. Pierre) and did some low-profile collaborations with various friends from the Scottish indie scene. I CAN HEAR YOUR HEART is Moffat's first album under his own name, and it's entirely unlike anything he's ever done before. Taking the sexual frankness of the Arab Strap to its logical extreme, the 24 tracks on I CAN HEAR YOUR HEART are poems and spoken-word prose detailing an adulterous affair from various viewpoints, put to minimalist musical settings. The one proper song is a deconstructed cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Hungry Heart." Strange and sometimes uncomfortable, but undeniably compelling, I CAN HEAR YOUR HEART is a challenging but rewarding listen.
Having previously made a name for himself as the seedier half of Scottish indie legends Arab Strap, Aidan John Moffat here finds himself in distinctly more lewd territory than thealready unabashed work of his previous band. 'I Can Hear Your Heart' is a collection of poems and short stories read over a variety of music and atmospheric sounds, at turns humorous, heartbreaking and always explicit. A light narrative runs throughout, with an enclosed short story in the sleeve (charmingly entitled 'Poop') setting the scene. In amongst thespoken words, Moffat even finds time to include an accordion-led cover of Bruce Springsteen's 'Hungry Heart'.
