Bachelorette songs Though this is Bachelorette's fourth album, this set of songs is such a statement of purpose that it deserves to be the project's namesake. With Annabel Alpers' fondness for folk and synth pop, the genres have never blended together so seamlessly before, as on "The Light Seekers," which marries acoustic picking with electronic beats so delicate they feel more like heartbeats than man-made rhythms. There's also a newfound emotional maturity at work, most strikingly on the opening track, "Grow Old with Me," where Alpers sings "you can watch my face disintegrate" over nearly hymnal electronic textures and backing vocals. "Sugarbug," meanwhile, is so achingly gentle that even when it blooms into glorious guitars at the end, it's still a breathtaking lullaby. Despite the overall serene feel, Bachelorette still knows when to turn up the volume, which Alpers does expertly on "Blanket," which bounces along on a shuffle beat and a lilting melody, recalling a more girlish, bookish Goldfrapp. In between are quintessential electro-pop moments like "Polarity Party" and "Digital Brain," both of which define Alpers' flair for sweetly sci-fi songs. A fine encapsulation of all of Bachelorette's sounds and moods, this is the most comfortable Alpers has sounded making music, and the result is some of her best work yet. ~ Heather Phares Arranger: Annabel Alpers. My Electric Family My Electric Family CD (2009) Definitive Album
CD $18.45 Buy It  Details
Bachelorette CD discography Annabel Alpers isn't quite so solo on My Electric Family as she was on earlier Bachelorette releases, and it shows. The delicacy and intimacy of The End of Things and Isolation Loops reflected the fact that she made those albums with very little outside help. Here, Alpers recruits a full backing band, as well as the Royal New Zealand Air Force Brass Band, to broaden the horizons of her electro-folk-pop. The results are much livelier and more dynamic than anything she's done before. "Mindwarp" is downright buoyant, switching from driving, disco-tinged verses to trippy breakdowns with charismatic ease, but ...
End of Things End of Things Vinyl LP (2005)
Vinyl Record $18.19 Buy It  Details
Bachelorette albums The End of Things came from the void in 2005, a mini-LP that walked like an album of all great songs. Here, Bachelorette (aka Annabel Alpers of New Zealand) sketched out her basic design, a bedroom version of hi-tech dance pop with an elastic sense of style under the surface, its scope a vision of emotional landscapes where the intimate can become the infinite in a sudden flash. This new vinyl version features new cover artwork, a complete departure from the original The End of Things design.

Bachelorette Biography

Bachelorette CD discography The project of Christchurch, New Zealand's Annabel Alpers, Artist mixes '60s psychedelia and girl group pop with folk and lots and lots of vintage electronics. Inspired by acts spanning the Beatles and Smiths to Aphex Twin and Kraftwerk, Alpers' first release as Artist, the End of Things EP, was released in 2005. For her debut album, 2007's Isolation Loops, she sequestered herself for three months in a cabin her great-grandfather built in a fishing village near the mouth of the Rakaia River. She performed as a solo artist during the Isolation Loops tour, but for her next album, My Electric Family, which was released in 2009, Alpers expanded Artist into a full-fledged band. ~ Heather Phares
