Muskrat Ramble CD (1959)
Red Maddock CD discography This dixieland LP is more creative than usual. Cornetist Doc Evans and his septet/octet (which also includes pianist Knocky Parker) perform fresh versions of three songs by Jelly Roll Morton, two by Clarence Williams, the standard "Fidgety Feet" and Evans' original "King Bolden on Parade." A special bonus is "Fantasy on Muskrat Ramble" which takes the warhorse through a variety of surprising changes. This LP has been out-of-print for several years but is well worth picking up; Doc Evans was always an excellent player. ~ Scott Yanow
