Arrow CD (2012) Top Seller
Erika Wennerstrom CD discography Arrow marks the second time in two albums that Erika Wennerstrom has reinvented her band the Heartless Bastards; after the breakup of the lineup that cut Stairs and Elevators and All This Time, Wennerstrom put together a provisional version of the Bastards to record 2009's The Mountain, a relatively introspective set that found her exploring her country and folk influences. It was after The Mountain was released that a proper new Heartless Bastards came together, and Arrow sounds noticeably different than both previous editions of the group. Arrow is a rock & roll album that hits harder and straighter than The Mountain, but this bunch of Bastards -- Wennerstrom on vocals and guitar, Mark Nathan on guitar, Jesse Ebaugh on bass, and Dave Colvin on drums -- summons a more refined racket than the rough, primal roar of the Bastards Mk. 1. This music is a long way from funky, but Ebaugh and Colvin give this band a sinewy groove that was absent in earlier incarnations, and with ...

Stairs and Elevators CD (2005) Top Seller
Erika Wennerstrom albums Dayton, Ohio's Heartless Bastards are anything but that. Even though the trio's thudding garage-rock is straightforward and mightily familiar, it is possible to hear the passionate human heart beating beneath the formula right away. Comprised of drummer Kevin Vaughn, bassist Mike Lamping, and guitarist/singer/songwriter Erika Wennerstrom, Heartless Bastards bring sincerity, self-reflection, and integrity to their music, yet never once compromise the ...

Mountain CD (2009)
Erika Wennerstrom music CDs Ohio-based trio Heartless Bastards garnered enough acclaim for their first two albums to put their third, THE MOUNTAIN, in the "highly anticipated" category. Fortunately, the band didn't make any hasty changes to their sound here, which seems to have developed very organically from the earlier recordings. The arrangements remain raw, spare, and largely subdued, with Erika Wennerstrom's distinctive Patti Smith-meets-Dusty Springfield vocals the dominant force on tracks that seem equally conversant with Detroit garage-punk, deep soul, and American roots music.

All This Time CD (2006)
Erika Wennerstrom discography On their sophomore full-length, ALL THIS TIME, Ohio's Heartless Bastards give their roots-rock a more traditionally tuneful sound. Erika Wennerstrom's richly textured vocals aren't quite the primary focus that they were on the band's much-praised debut, STAIRS AND ELEVATORS. Here, they serve more as an entry point for the 10 soulful rock songs featured. Bassist Mike Lamping and drummer Kevin Vaughn move from the hard-edged garage sound of their previous disc to a more intimate, but no less powerful brand of rock.
Personnel: Erika Wennerstrom (vocals, guitar, piano); Suzanna Barnes (violin); Rebe Barnes, Amy Cluggish (viola); Mike Lamping (bass instrument); Kevin Vaughn (drums, percussion).
