Springtime for Liberals CD (2007)
Elaina Newport songs With the Democrats' landslide win of both the Senate and the House in the 2006 elections, it was only natural that it would be a prominent theme for the next Capitol Steps album. Mel Brooks' "Springtime for Hitler" (from The Producers) provides a perfect launching pad for the amusing "Springtime for Liberals" to introduce the complete, gloating cast playing Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama and Ted Kennedy. Speaker of the House Pelosi is the key character in "Everything's Coming Up Pelosi." President Bush, played beautifully by Kevin Corbett, stumbles through his planned remarks and recasts Bill Withers' hit as "Ain't No Rumsfeld" and sings "Stand by Japan" with the Japanese prime minister. The quick rise of Senator Obama is hyped in "A Leader Like Barack" (a spoof of "Leader of the Pack"). Peggy Lee's "Fever" is redone as an indictment of the inept ...

Between Iraq and a Hard Place CD (2003)
Elaina Newport discography The Capitol Steps have been one of the most consistently funny groups to do musical parodies since they released their first CD in 1984. Not only do they have gifted writers, but each of the singers proves to be effective mimics. Political targets are their specialty, especially the hilarious "Hang Down Your Head, Tom Daschle," the opera spoof "Toricelli," Senator Trent Lott ("It's Not Easy Being White"), "Condoleezza" (sung to "Mona Lisa"), ...

Fools on the Hill CD (1992)
Elaina Newport albums The musical comedy collective the Capitol Steps target the usual gang of politicians and world figures in this collection of 1992 parodies. Congress is, as usual, the bull's-eye of their parodies, with "Fools on the Hill" (borrowed from the Beatles' "Fool on the Hill") and the hilarious "Superfranticunproductivenothinglegislation" (with the melody borrowed from the musical Mary Poppins). Presidential candidates aren't immune either, with Bill Clinton singing like Elvis Presley in "Pander Bear," ...

76 Bad Loans CD (1991)
Elaina Newport music CDs The Capitol Steps are in great form with these brilliant parodies from the early '90s. With all of the colorful and often empty-headed politicians providing great ideas with their antics, the group was inspired to spoof the Beach Boys with "Fun, Fun, Fun 'Til Teddy Puts His T-Shirt Away" (skewering the middle-aged Teddy Kennedy, who still was behaving like a college student on spring break); the Bee Gees with "Slipped Disco (Keep ...
