Ryan McAllister CD discography Ryan McAllister has been writing, recording and producing music for the past decade. His career began as singer/songwriter for the band Dakona. In 2001, the young Vancouver quartet was the subject of a seven label bidding war. They eventually signed with Madonna's Maverick Records. In 2003 Dakona released Perfect Change and toured North America extensively, performing with Lifehouse, Michelle Branch, Third Eye Blind, Jason Mraz, Tonic, Better Than Ezra and others. In 2007 he co-founded indie/alt/folk trio Cowboys & Indians, a band that continues to fill venues in Western Canada. McAllister's music has charted in both Canada & the US and has had dozens of film & TV placements. Today McAllister runs Room & Board, a recording studio a few steps from his home in a sleepy corner of Southern British Columbia and there is nowhere he would rather be. He has taught himself the art of producing and recording, and has written plenty of music along the way. He began work on his debut solo album, Music for a Rainy Town, in June 2010. The result is a rich, diverse record that covers the genre gamut between pop, folk, and straight-up rock and roll. Ryan McAllister music CDs First impressions are everything, and for Vancouver's Dakona, they have good and bad ramifications. Perfect Change is built on the kind of big, bombastic modern rock sound -- courtesy of producers Arnold Lanni and Rob Cavallo -- that should easily lure in disciples of Matchbox Twenty and the Goo Goo Dolls. Still, Dakona's approach is painfully clichéd on "Waiting," the disc's irritatingly infectious leadoff number. Vocalist and principal songwriter Ryan McAllister may be a capable frontman with a handsomeness ripe for VH1, but he doesn't help matters with a voice that's a dead ringer for Our Lady Peace's Raine Maida.
