E Luxo So CD (1999)
Peter Neff music CDs On their fifth album, Labradford--a band already known for its sparse, dreamy soundscapes--tones things down even further. In approaching a more minimalist aesthetic, Virginia's favorite post-rockers drop the film-noir Ennio Morricone vibe that garnered unnecessary comparisons to Tortoise. Instead, there's a hushed, subtly electronic (it sometimes sounds like Pole's Stefan Betke is sitting in) feel to these six lengthy, untitled tracks that makes its predecessor, MI MEDIA NARANJA, sound like NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS. The increased use of space serves the band well, drawing the listener's attention to the sonic minutiae so vital to the band's compositions. Rather than a reduction, this process can be seen as a successful redefinition, especially on the third track, where the gentle pairing of piano with string section evokes a classical feel.
Recording information: Sound Of Music, Richmond, VA.
Personnel: Peter Neff (dulcimer); Chris Johnston, Jamie Evans (strings).

Road Less Traveled CD (2002)
Peter Neff CD discography A Road Less Traveled is a collection - an instrumental "cycle of songs without words".
The recording would generally be classified as Contemporary Jazz, yet there is an almost Chamber Music approach to the disc on whole, as the focus of instruments changes from song to song.

Although the piano is clearly in focus, the emphasis and colors shift throughout the recording.
Each of the Songs is a slice of life, portraying humanistic moods and emotions.
The overall effect of the album is rather personal and contemplative.
The resultant blend is an Album, ...

Pan American CD (1998)
Peter Neff discography Brainchild of Labradford guitarist/vocalist, Mark Nelson, Pan American made its quiescent debut in 1998 with this self-titled nine song EP. Minimal and beautiful, Pan American utilizes bare melodies to construct a soundscape of electronica and dub mixed with drums, guitar and keyboard. On PAN AMERICAN, washes of implied beats and skeletons of melody refract images of post-rock, creating the abstract from the familiar. It's not until "Lent" that the guitar pushes aside the curtain of electronics to illuminate ...
