The bubblegum-themed cover betrays his obsession with the guitar-based pop once practiced by the like of The Rasperries and Badfinger, but since relegated to the dusty corners of record collections. If he has his way, Mark Bacino will lead the charge that brings those records back into the spotlight. Bacino has obviously done his homework, elevating sugary pop to an art form. Starting with the first track "Wonder," POP JOB is chock full of guitar hooks, peppy beats and sweet harmonies. On "Past Tense" he reaches all the way back to the early '60s for an Everly Brothers-esque ballad. "Inside" and "One Week Away" have memorable choruses that will quickly find their way into your shower repertoire. And staying true to form, each song clocks in under three minutes, proving that the good-things-come-in-small-packages theory can produce excellent results in the hands of a skilled practitioner.
