Ulco Bed albums SAX-A-GO-GO is the second album from Dutch pop-saxophonist, who has collaborated with Prince, who penned the cut "Sunday Afternoon." Saxophonist Candy Dulfer's sophomore album, 1993's Sax-A-Go-Go, built upon the smooth jazz of her debut while also playing up more of her hip-hop and dance music influences. Once again working with producer/multi-instrumentalist Ulco Bed, Dulfer delved even deeper into the club-ready funk and acid jazz that was in its heyday during the early '90s. These are synthesizer and drum machine-heavy productions showcasing Dulfer's high-energy saxophone lines. ...
Candy Store Candy Store CD (2007) 4 stars
CD $13.09 Buy It  Details Bonus Track
Ulco Bed CD discography Saxophonist Candy Dulfer doesn't shy away from a hard groove. "Candy," the kick-off track to the artist's 2007 release CANDY STORE is a case in point, as is "Music = Love." When not fronting a funky jam, Dulfer dips into smooth jazz ("L.A. City Lights"), Latin-tinged beats ("La Cabana"), and smoky noir ("Soul Sax"). There aren't any left-field surprises here, only light, groove-centered, mainstream jazz, but Dulfer's sweet but authoritative style and the quality of her personnel make CANDY STORE a treat. What Does It Take? What Does It Take? CD (1999)
CD $16.15 Buy It  Details
Ulco Bed songs No doubt some very talented fashion and makeup artists got paid a bundle to entice your eyes with seductive, softly lit visions of the gorgeous blond Dutch sax star. The good news is, even without the hard to resist packaging, Dulfer once again hits the mark with one of those funky smooth jazz discs that could keep the dullest party humming. This is the second disc in a row -- following 1997's similarly enticing For the Love of You -- marketed around an update of an old soul classic (this time, Junior Walker's 1969 hit), and it makes great commercial sense to pair Dulfer's snazzy riffs with labelmate Jonathan Butler's kindly vocals. Such an obvious airplay hit, however, detracts from the real joys of the collection, which include bold, brassy covers of two from Sonny Rollins' catalog. Dulfer plays "No Problem" pretty straightforwardly, but she and producer, partner, and all around groovemeister Ulco Bed ...
