Oranges & Pineapples CD (2003)
Ross Levine music CDs Oranges & Pineapples finds the California Oranges experimenting with punk edges and less concerned with the band's classic twee pop. John Conley and company aren't as focused on making the most adorable sound, hence their summery name, and the crunchy licks layered throughout their second album outshine the charming bits found on their previous debut. Conley and bass player Verna Brock trade vocal duties, and brothers Ross and Matt Levine provide a tight rhythm section. The overall instrumentation on Oranges & Pineapples is slickly arranged, nothing short of what twee pop is all about, but the California Oranges make it better without being so sweet. Sure, the sugary moments are there on "Circle Line" and "So Many Days" and that's certainly OK. It's the merry rock & roll sounds of "Never Do That ...

Remodel CD (2007)
Ross Levine albums These days when poppy-punk bands are like sand grains, it's surprising this hard-pounding Orange County five has to sign to little, feisty, British Boss Tuneage. But maybe it's 'cause they're better than the dreary genre fodder clogging the Top 40! Lou Giordano, who produces half of this, knows a decent group when he records ...

Better Days CD (1995)
Ross Levine music CDs Welt's slightly derivative '90s punk has a youthful bounce on this debut, but when compared to their obvious influences (Face to Face, Social Distortion), the songwriting on Better Days just doesn't hold up. After the punkers dropped a couple 7" singles in their home town of Sacramento, CA, SoCal punk homestead Dr. Dream Records ...

III CD (1969)
The Ultimate Spinach were originally a psychedelic/underground band, but by the time of their third and last album, the group had changed personnel so much that their connection with the original lineup was tenuous in both sound and body. (Actually, the original band had broken up after their second album; the Ultimate Spinach heard ...
