Reporter CD discography Reporter's Time Incredible finds the Portland band coming fully into its own, delivering sleek and otherworldly songs drawing from dance, dub, shoegaze, and Krautrock with ease. The seeds of this sound were present in Dust & Stars, but Alberta Poon, Mike McKinnon, and Daniel Grazzini were still making the transition from their prior incarnation as post-post-punks Wet Confetti. While Grazzini's guitars still throw a few angles into the band's otherwise swirling songs, Time Incredible is much smoother and more hypnotic than any of the trio's work under either moniker. Songs like "Geronimo's Bones" are subtly compelling, with Poon's breathy vocals pulling the listener into gentle beats and breakdowns that are more like rolling hills than peaks and valleys. Even when the band is more insistent, as on "Total Fascination," Reporter's sound is cushioned in splashy dub-inflected reverb and layers of synth that feel like a futuristic upgrade of dream pop. The band is at the peak of its dream-disco powers on lengthy excursions such as "Silent Running" and the delicately prickly title track, which somehow manage to be transporting and intimate at the same time. As challenging as it is accessible, Time Incredible lives up to its name. ~ Heather Phares Audio Mixer: Brian Foote.

Reporter albums Portland Oregon's Reporter is fairly new to the music scene but that hasn't stopped them from creating quite the local buzz upon their arrival. Having former members of local faves Wet Confetti probably helped, but their refreshing, fun and catchy pop rock songs with a classic rock tinge is definitely something people will be latching onto. Reporter's songs have a very lively feel. Guitar lines jangle one minute then crunch and rip the next, charming male/female vocals intertwine all while drums and bass drive feverously ahead. I'd say Reporter is off to a great start.

Reporter CD discography Initially cutting his performing chops in a series of punk bands, James Yorkston was propelled into the U.K. folk limelight after securing an opening slot supporting John Martyn. His third album, YEAR OF THE LEOPARD, finds Yorkston in full creative bloom--from traditional acoustic folk to more experimental spoken word pieces, its spare beauty is lent a cohesiveness from Paul Webb's delicate production and sparse arrangements. Yorkston's wispy intonation brims with an understated yet affecting charm. Happily flouting easy tags like "new folk" or "singer-songwriter," THE YEAR OF THE LEOPARD is a highly original work by an artist at the height of his powers. Photographers: David Hood; Sean Dooley; Faisal Rahman. Personnel: James Yorkston (vocals, guitars, banjo, bouzouki, mandolin, harmonica, concertina, clarinet, harmonium, Hammond b-3 organ, chimes); Paul Webb (vocals, piano); Jenny Casino (vocals); Jon (violin); Reuben (accordion, concertina, melodica, piano, Hammond b-3 organ); Faisal (Fender Rhodes piano, percussion); Doogie (double bass); Reporter (electronics). Reporter Biography

Reporter albums Originally known as Wet Confetti, Portland, Oregon's Artist feature bassist/vocalist Alberta Poon, drummer Mike McKinnon, and guitarist Dan Grazzini. As Wet Confetti, Grazzini, McKinnon, and Poon played experimental post-post-punk, but after releasing two albums and an EP, their sound moved in a more fluid direction inspired by their town's burgeoning electronic pop scene, exemplified by acts such as Glass Candy. In 2007, the trio's name changed to Artist, and the band released its first set of songs under the new moniker, Dust & Stars, in 2008. Artist's sound became even more sleek and distinctive on the group's 2010 album, Time Incredible. ~ Heather Phares
