David Haley songs On its 2008 debut for the Nuclear Blast label, OB(SERVANT), the Australian death-metal ensemble Psycroptic unleashes a fierce and focused set of songs. "A Calculated Effort" showcases the Tasmanian band's rhythmic mastery with a series of breakneck time changes, while "Initiate" presents the act's moodier, but no less aggressive, side. The band recently made their first of many trips Stateside while on the Summer Slaughter tour. As the live arena is where Psycroptic really comes into their own, you can rest assured that the audience will have no choice but to acknowledge this brutal and modern metal powerhouse form the island down under! This set includes a 9 track CD and DVD with a studio documentary and live footage shot on their 2007 tours in Europe and New Zealand. Audio Mixer: Logan Mader. Recording information: 03/2008-05/2008. Psycroptic: Jason Peppiatt (vocals); Cameron Grant (bass instrument); David Haley (drums, drum). Additional personnel: The Amenta (electronics).

David Haley discography Black metal may be largely identified with Northern Europe, but it has spread its wings all over the globe. Tasmanian duo Ruins play a style of black metal heavily influenced by the bleak and powerful crunch of classic groups like Norway's Immortal, cripplingly heavy yet bathed in atmosphere. Instead of the wind-scoured hills of Norway, however, Ruins draw inspiration from their own exotic, barren landscape. Their second album, CAULDRON, stays away from easy shocks to build tension and drama out of huge rock formations of noise on songs like "Suicidal Pulse" and "Where Time is Left Behind." Recording information: Crawlspace (08/2006-08/2007); Red Planet (08/2006-08/2007). Personnel: Alex Pope (vocals, guitars, bass instrument); David Haley (vocals, drums); Joe Haley (vocals). Audio Mixer: Joe Haley.

David Haley CD discography Sufferupachuckle, the fourth proper release (he also recorded two self-released cassettes) since Dirk Hamilton decided to re-enter the music business in the mid-'80s, is a mature, intelligent record that gains momentum with each listening. Twenty years after his debut, You Can Sing on the Left or Bark on the Right, Hamilton's eclectic folk-rock has the same enthusiastic spirit and idiosyncratic insight that fueled that album, but with the experience that time brings. The difference is, as he writes in the liner notes, "I used to sing to change the world, now I sing to keep the world from changing me," which pretty much sums things up. Throughout, Hamilton asks the tough questions, exploring birth, death, everyday life, and "the relative health of your soul inside" with a rare wit and wisdom. Songs such as the ...
