We Brave Bee Stings and All CD (2008)
Thao Nguyen albums The second album by Portland, Oregon-based singer-songwriter Thao Nguyen and her backing band the Get Down Stay Down blends the winsome indie pop of Belle & Sebastian with a more impassioned and emotional vocal and lyrical style reminiscent of Cat Power. The first proper album from Thao & the Get Down Stay Down since 2009's playful but broken Know Better Learn Faster, We the Common was preceded by a series of collaborations between Nguyen and contemporaries like tUnE-yArDs and Mirah. Where Know Better Learn ...

Thao & Justin Power Sessions CD (2009)
Thao Nguyen albums Perhaps the most beloved stringed instrument (next to the guitar) in the world of indie rock, the cello's sound is imbued with the sort of dignified melancholy of which indie types have always been enamored. The Portland Cello Project takes this appreciation to a new level with THE THAO & JUSTIN POWER SESSIONS. The "indie cello orchestra's" second album is a lovely if slightly precious collection of chamber pop built around the lush, sweeping melodies of the PCP. Thao and Justin are Thao Nguyen of Thao With the Get Down Stay Down and Portland singer-songwriter Justin Powers, both of whom possess the sort of eclectic sensibilities and tasteful singing voices to make a project like this work. While this set doesn't offer any of the PCP's wacky takes ...

Thao Nguyen music CDs This singer-songwriter-focused compilation from the venerable independent label Kill Rock Stars features bona-fide indie-folk stars like Sufjan Stevens and Laura Veirs (whose raw "Cast a Hook in Me" is as good a three-minute expose of a psyche as you'll ever hear), as ...
