Cosmogenesis CD (2009) Top Seller
V. Santura songs German extreme metal act Obscura's sophomore release is one of the most dynamic, technically proficient albums to be released since the emergence of Cynic. COSMOGENESIS wields the frenetic fury of death metal, the precision of progressive rock, and the instrumental brilliance of jazz. One of its standout elements in particular is the six-string fretless bass work of former Pestilence bassist Jeroen Paul Thesseling. Featuring guest appearances by Ron Jarzombek (Spastic Ink, Gordian Knot), Tymon Kruidenier (Cynic), and V. Santura (Celtic Frost, Noneuclid), Obscura's latest was also painstakingly produced and mixed by Santura.

Ylem CD (2010)
V. Santura albums Having experienced a career breakthrough of sorts with 2008's critically raved upon Eidolon, Germany's Dark Fortress might have felt the weight of expectation for the first time in their 15-year existence while preparing their sixth album, 2010's Ylem. But despite its rather bulky 70 minutes (comprised of 11, often lengthy and, some might say, overwrought compositions), and the sheer apocalyptic intensity with which the opening title track storms the gates (as though trying to reassert the band's "trve" black metal pedigree), nothing could be further from the truth. No, like Eidolon and 2006's excellent Séance before it, Ylem simply showcases a band traversing their creative peak; and, as illustrated by the impressively diverse material that follows, quite fearless about challenging genre conventions, if it pleases them to do so. If ...

Retribution CD (2010)
V. Santura CD discography Technical metal for the sake of being technical? That certainly could be a fitting summary of Germany's fleet-fingered metal act Obscura, who forgo anything resembling melody in favor of shredding and good old-fashioned noise -- as evidenced throughout their debut album, Retribution, which was remastered/reissued by Relapse Records in 2010 (with a few bonus tracks tacked on). Retribution remains one fierce beast -- full of so much stop-start riffing that those who are prone to motion sickness should proceed with the utmost caution. Add to it some oh-so-delightful death ...

Eidolon CD (2008)
V. Santura discography With a name like Dark Fortress, it should come as no surprise that the band's specialty is epic black metal. Their first effort with new vocalist Morean is a meditation on the idea of traveling to other dimensions through astral projection and mirrors (seriously). While it sounds kind of new-agey, the music that tells the story is anything but. Caustic guitars open ragged wounds while vocals gurgle up from black pits on songs such as "Baphomet" and "No Longer Human," an atmospheric ode to shedding one's humanity en route ...
