Bikini Red CD (1987)
Screaming Blue Messiahs music CDs The Messiahs' follow-up to GUN-SHY was this devastating hunk of noise, which didn't pull any punches when it came to raw emotion and intensity. Side One, especially, is a rave-up, from the gut-bustin' raunch of "Sweet Water Pools" to the closer "Big Brother Muscle." As always, Carter's obsessions are a little hard to understand, but the images and lyrical fragments fly at one like shards of broken glass. "I Wanna Be a Flintstone" kicks off Side Two, and it remains as funky and funny as it was the first time you hear it.
Personnel: Bill Carter (vocals, guitar); Kenneth Harris, Kenny Harris (drums).

Gun Shy CD (1986)
Screaming Blue Messiahs discography Starting off with the hyperactive pub rock sound of "Wild Blue Yonder," 1986's GUN-SHY is a great debut. Taking its cues from punk rock, the Messiahs crank up the intensity with songs like "Smash the Marketplace" and the ominous "Let's Go Out to the Woods Tonight." If GUN-SHY stumbles, it's probably because it's a tad restrained (given the energy, volume, and power these guys generated live), as if it were assumed that audiences simply might not be able to handle it all at once. Still, that's a minor complaint ...

Live at the BBC CD (2009)
Screaming Blue Messiahs songs Though only three Screaming Blue Messiahs BBC sessions are included on this compilation, it actually has quite a bit of material, owing mainly to the inclusion of 11 songs recorded in concert (as opposed to in a studio) on March 30, 1985. Otherwise, the CD has three songs apiece from more standard BBC sessions ...

Totally Religious CD (1989)
Screaming Blue Messiahs discography The final chunk of squalling guitar rant from the Screaming Blue Messiahs doesn't reach the relentless highs of Bikini Red, but it's pure mania nonetheless, and a sure shot for those who lapped up the first two waxings. The titles alone ("All Gassed Up" and "Four Engines Burning [Over the USA]") clue you in ...
