Consolation Consolation CD (2003)
CD Check Availability  Details
The music of Squall is the outpouring of sounds that revolve around Greg Dobler's brain. As the physical incarnation of this music (i.e. - "Consolation", the new full length) was recorded with Greg playing every instrument, the distinction of whether Squall is Greg Dobler or whether Squall is the band that plays Greg's music becomes blurred. The creation of "Consolation" was a relatively lengthy process. Though SQUALL's songs are conceived in their entirety (including instrumentation and harmony) from the moment that they are first pulled from guitar or piano strings, the process of making sure that the sounds coming from the speakers match the sounds in SQUALL's mind took the better part of a year to complete. SQUALL has created a sound that exactly resembles these internal resonances by playing the parts of songwriter, performer, engineer, producer, and mastering engineer. The resulting record contains music that is highly textured, harmonically rich indie-rock/indie-pop, and encompasses musical musings as complex as 8-part vocal harmonies and 6-part fugues and as simple as only six strings accompanying one set of vocal chords.
Afraid For The Gravity Afraid For The Gravity CD (2002)

Squall's music sounds like showers of strings caressing your ear drums...... The Inception of the Storm "Afraid for the Gravity" was recorded over a two week period in January of 2002 by Squall (Greg Dobler) in his own home studio, which basically consists of an eight track and an apartment 18 floors above the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. Though most of his life has been spent as a musician, in 1998 frustrations due to the apathy of fellow musicians and the public's general lack of interest in creative musical thought pushed Squall away from what he knew he was. And now, for the past three years, he has been paying for straying from what was supposed to be. Relationships between himself and those closest to him began to crumble at a fantastic rate and by the spring of 2000 Squall found himself virtually entirely without contact. But, as epiphanies tend to do, the notion of fighting with fate began to weigh heavily on the one time avowed atheist's brain. He began to hear a sound markedly different from most of the music he had encountered up until that point and he was aware that these sounds in his head had to be put on record. The music was born out of a combination of disappointment with the evolution of popular and political culture, frustration with the ever narrowing mind of the average human being, and, of course, the personal trials of this person who cannot seem to live his life the way he knows it must be lived. But he is trying. Squall is aware that he is meant to create music; he has created a record that is somewhat fundamental, somewhat expansive, and always textured. And so now, with the release of his first album, the phoenix floats up from the ashes and is attempting to reenter the musical world he so recently turned his back on.
