Life Is A Drag CD (2009)
Basic Black discography "THEY ALWAYS CALLED ME THE BLACK SHEEP OF THE FAMILY. I GOT RID OF THE FAMILY NAME AND TOOK THE NAME BLACK. BASIC BECAUSE I'M REALLY JUST A SIMPLE (NOT!) COUNTRY GIRL AT HEART."
BASIC BLACK, the sexy and hip Step-Den Mother of METROPOLITAN BAR and SUGARLAND in Williamsburg Brooklyn is the brainchild of Troy Carson (also know for his portrayal of Jeffrey Strouth in his adaptation of Reno Dakotas AMERICAN FABULOUS).
On a whim and a dare, Troy appeared for the first time as the Basic Black character during one of the regular Tuesday QUEERAOKE nights at Metropolitan. He developed the character of Basic Black as the hostess and regular performer at Queeraoke. Basic Black added a band (The Off-Whites) and began performing her own special renditions of 80's music, developing her own brand of the NewWave/Pop sound.
THE OFF-WHITES are a diverse group (hence the name) consisting of Hottie dancer/back-up singer/rapper K.C.'arl (a.k.a. K.C. Randall Rick, & 3 A.M.), club kid dancer/back-up singer Little Joshua, and the extraordinary back-up vocalist TA-MONSTA (Tamara).
They eventually teamed up with producer, writer, performer DEVON PERRY creator of the GUNK FACTORY and began work on the Electro Disco/New Wave sound of an up-coming album which you are listening to some of here. All songs were ...

Basic Black CD (1990)
Basic Black songs When producers Teddy Riley and Gene Griffin parted company, one of Griffin's first moves was producing this self-titled debut album by new jack swing quartet Basic Black. Griffin was obviously hoping to duplicate the success of Guy, and in doing so produced a CD with very few traces of originality. There are a few worthwhile songs on the disc, including the sociopolitical "Stupid" (a commentary on drugs, inner-city violence and other issues) and the 1970s-influenced ballad "Special Kind of Fool." But most of the material isn't the least bit memorable. Faceless and contrived, tracks like "Nothing But a Party," "Don't Make Me Fall In Love" and "She's Mine" expose Basic Black for the shameless, knee-jerk Guy clones they were. Artistic integrity clearly wasn't a high priority for Griffin when he produced this embarassing release. ~ Alex Henderson

Gold: New Jack Swing CDs (2008)
Basic Black CD discography The New Jack Swing movement of the 1980s found R&B updating itself from the funk and soul that had dominated the `70s, and moving toward a synth-heavy dance music that incorporated elements of club music, traditional soul, and hip-hop.
