Buzz Me In CD (1999)
Sheila Stroud albums Though Jack Logan might seem like a newcomer to the music scene, he has been active since the early '90s in the same "indie-rock" circle that produced R.E.M. and The Replacements. Logan's music shares some slight similarities to those bands. "I Brake for God" has the course, rough pop feel of The Replacements. "Glorious World" tears out of the speakers like a song from R.E.M's RECKONING, but the lyrics recall early Joe Jackson and Elvis Costello at their most sarcastic.
"Diving Deeper" is reminiscent of The Beatles circa THE WHITE ALBUM, and "Melancholy Girl" and "Pearl of Them All" are late-night melancholy gems with a languid, pre-NashVegas-country feel. Logan sings in a deceptively mellow, full-sounding voice--suggestive of Elvis Costello's "smooth" mode--over songs that have well-constructed, memorable melodies.
