G. Scott Jones CD discography A Fela-inspired Afrobeat collective by way of Detroit, Michigan, might provoke suspicions of endless jam-band histrionics, but Nomo is tight, disciplined, and dance-focused, taking as a starting point Afrobeat's swaying rhythms as much as its extended improvisations. Its second album, NEW TONES, combines the experimental reach of Sun Ra with New Orleans voodoo on "Fourth Ward" and laid-back funk on "We Do We Go," while "Sarvodaya" is a hypnotic blend of mbira, synthesizer, and languid horn textures.
