Yash Chopra's action-filled drama traces one family's long and difficult struggle to stay together in the face of corruption and hardship. Blackmailed by ruthless gangsters, a union leader sells out his principles in order to save his two young sons, but soon after abandons them in shame. Ravi (Shashi Kapoor) eventually becomes a police officer, while Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) is lured into the criminal underworld as he attempts to amass more and more wealth.
