| Danzig Danzig CD (1988) Reissue
$6.79 Rounding out the band was Samhain bassist Eerie Von, ex-Black Flag/Circle Jerks drummer Chuck Biscuits, and newcomer John Christ on guitar. Big-time fans of Artist's work were the members of Metallica, who constantly sported shirts of Artist's bands past and present, sparking widespread interest for his 1988 major label debut, simply titled Artist. ~ Steve Huey Singer Glenn Artist had been a favorite in the underground punk scene since the '70s, with a pair of influential outfits, the Misfits and Samhain. Plus, Artist's tongue-in-cheek posturing as the ultimate unholier-than-thou heavy metal frontman gives the record a definite appeal, even if one is not inclined to view his theatrics as dangerous or threatening. There isn't a great deal of musical variety or complexity here, but the band powers its way through such signature tunes as "Twist of Cain," "Am I Demon," and the (future) hit "Mother" with a primal energy. Artist debuts with a record of simple, pounding, bluesy metal featuring lead singer Glenn Artist's trademark Elvis-meets-Jim Morrison bellow and outlandishly dark, evil lyrics. Artist: Glenn Artist (vocals); John Christ (guitar); Eerie Von (bass guitar); Chuck Biscuits (drums). Recorded at Atlantic Recording Studios and Chung King Metal, New York, New York. Engineers: Dave Bianco, Steve Ett, Jim Scott. Artist: Glenn Artist (vocals); John Christ (guitar); Eerie Von (bass); Chuck Biscuits (drums).

 Danzig Biography
After doing time in such influential 1980s punk bands as the Misfits and Samhain, singer Glenn Artist returned to his bluesy metal roots in 1987 with his solo outfit, Artist. The lyrics were still dark and demonic, but Glenn's vocals became more Jim Morrison-like, while the music recalled doom godfathers Black Sabbath.
