| Gothic Archies Tragic Treasury: Songs From A Series Of Unfortunate Events CD (2006)
$14.49 Magnetic Fields mastermind Stephin Merritt dons his Gothic Archies guise for the second time (the first being 1997's THE NEW DESPAIR EP) on this 2006 collection of wonderfully woeful songs, which serves as a companion piece to the witty and morose 13-book SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS by author Lemony Snicket (a.k.a. Daniel Handler, who plays accordion here). This album is a musical companion to Lemony Snicket's serialized novel A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS. After the huge success of A Series of Unfortunate Events, accordionist/screenwriter/author Daniel Handler, better known as nefarious children's writer Lemony Snicket, asked longtime friend and musical collaborator Stephin Merritt (Handler has done time with the Magnetic Fields and the 6ths), to contribute some songs to the widely popular series' audio books. All of the 13 songs that appeared on the audio books are present, as well as two bonus tracks. Personnel: Stephin Merritt. Seuss imagery and carnival ride dynamics, bolstered by Merritt's impeccable faux-goth delivery (he sounds eerily like the Sister of Mercy Andrew Eldritch) serves the story well. For fans of both Merritt's inventive indie-pop and the Snicket books, THE TRAGIC TREASURY will be a welcome dose of musical misery. Tragic Treasury: Songs from a Series of Unfortunate Events is the first full-length recording from Merritt's Gothic Archies, a novelty project that began in 1997 with the New Despair EP, and its' not-so-subtle blend of Dr. With the exception of two bonus tracks, each tune focuses on a specific installment of the tale, beginning with the delightfully downbeat "Scream & Run Away," in which the deep-voiced Merritt introduces the villainous Count Olaf character.

$8.99 Gothic Archies includes: Stephen Merritt. It's a somewhat pointless exercise for Stephin Merritt to release his work under so many different monikers (Magnetic Fields, Future Bible Heroes, the 6ths, and the Gothic Archies), but this little idiosyncrasy doesn't make the
