Los Angeles-by-way-of-Chicago instrumental quartet Artist pride themselves on being impossible to classify. While it might be easy to label them metal, their extended compositions explore too many moods and textures to be reduced to a single genre. Drawing equally from the deep, dark pool filled by Black Sabbath and the meditative post-rock coming out of Chicago, Artist can be crushingly heavy or ethereal within the same song.
