In retrospect, it should have been obvious that the prefab supergroup Rock Star Supernova -- originally just "Supernova" before an older band of the same name won its injunction against them, so their name became a compound of the name of their reality TV show and their chosen name -- would choose wannabe goth superstar Lukas Rossi as their singer. Rock Star Supernova: Jason Newsted (electric bass); Gilby Clarke, Tommy Lee. Enter uber-producer/pop-song ninja Butch Walker, and the result is a hook-heavy rock album with Walker's infectious songcraft front and center. The 25,000 entrants were whittled down to 15 finalists, and Canadian Lukas Rossi became the lead vocalist of Rock Star Supernova. The first season of the Rock Star reality television series brought INXS back into the public eye, and landed the group a vocalist and a new generation of fans. Photographer: Davis Factor. As an alternative, an all-star band was assembled, made up of Guns N' Roses' Gilby Clark, Jason Newsted of Metallica, and Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee. Several other singer-less groups were asked to participate in season two, but turned down the offers to continue the show's original formula.
