| Gabor Gado Budapest Music Center/bmc music Psyche CD (2005) Digipak
$15.29 Guitarist Gábor Gadó's Psyché takes some time to appreciate. Gadó's core group is a quartet with tenor saxophonist Matthieu Donarier being of greatest interest for his original yet swinging (in his own fashion) style. The music is rather dry in stretches and some of it leans as much toward modern classical music and eccentric folk songs as it does jazz. The other musicians are guests on a few selections apiece with Peter Szalal's tabla and percussion dominating "Etad Vai Tat" and four horns guesting on "Homologia." Gadó, although clearly a skilled guitarist, makes more of an impression here as a composer, although the music overall will be quite forbidding for most listeners.
